Hair Loss After Childbirth

Posted by DrMarder Skin on

After childbirth, many women often experience evident hair loss for a few months. This type of hair loss is normal and usually caused by low estrogen levels. Fortunately, this hair loss is only a temporary problem and the majority of women regain normal fullness in the hair within one year. In some cases, the recovery is even swifter. Although there is no remedy required, for those bothered by the issue there are ways to speed up the recovery process.

Dr. Marder recommends using a shampoo and conditioner that adds volume to restore full and healthy hair. In addition, conditions formulated for fine hair will not weigh the hair down. In order to retain fuller hair, it is important that conditioners labeled as ‘intensive’ or shampoos labeled ‘condition shampoo’ are avoided. Both are too heavy for fragile hair. New hairstyles can also help make the hair look fuller, such as shorter cuts and getting cuts with layers. Furthermore, Dr. Marder suggests new mothers be wary of hair tourniquets that can be dangerous to a new born.
